There are 29 types of organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c) and just within section 501(c)(3), there are many types of nonprofits. First, there are two primary categories of 501(c)(3) organizations: private foundations and charitable nonprofits – within which there are numerous varieties of organizations. This session will provide a review of the work of different kinds of nonprofit organizations – associations, religious organizations, membership, community and neighborhood organizations, related organizations, and public benefit corporations – including highlighting the most common problems encountered.

Kimberly Lowe became the 97th president of the Hennepin County Bar Association on July 1. Kim is a shareholder at Fredrikson & Byron where she chairs the firm’s Nonprofit Organizations practice group and co-chairs the Start-Up and Rapid Growth Enterprises practice group.
