Professor Bennoune has interviewed dozens of the more than 400,000 refugees who left their homes in Mali when that area was occupied by fundamentalist Islamic jihadists who sought to impose Shariya law. Many people fled torture, summary executions, recruitment of child soldiers and sexual violence against women at the hands of the militant fundamentalists.
